SNES Central PCB Archive
I started to work on an archive of PCB scans that I have. My intial work is here:
http://www.snescentral.com/system.php
Currently, I have 16 PCBs on the list, though I am sure there are probably around 40-60 scans on the website as of now. I had my differences with Y~K in the past, but I see no reason that I cannot start fresh and collaborate with No Intro to make a comprehensive list. Note that I work a hell of a lot, so any new PCBs I get may not get up on the website for a long while, though I try to work on the site for at least an hour a day.
Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

I have a few scans of PCBs (around 20). I will send them to you when I will be at home (in 3 weeks time).

Hi
badinsults, yould you mind if we add your pcb scans to No-Intro Screenshot Archive for prototypes and betas without full cartridge picture?
Regards.

I don't see a problem with that, since Y~K is no longer running the show. I assume that I would be able to use the No Intro archive for my own use as well?

Yes of course, you can use "our" images. A citation would be nice if you use a lot of them, but it's not required
Kind regards.
PD.- The reason of the citation is for promotional purposes, if more people know us we'll have more chances to get more images.

Of course I will credit anyone who contribute and make a link to No Intro.

What is the cheapest, new model, readily purchasable scanner that works well for non-flat surfaces like PCBs? I've tried using my friend's printer's built-in scanner, it's a fairly new HP model, and it fails utterly. It captures the chip surface in contact with the scanner glass, but it completely blurs out the PCB itself.

You need Canon for 3d object scanning, HP is incapbale of doing that.FitzRoy wrote:What is the cheapest, new model, readily purchasable scanner that works well for non-flat surfaces like PCBs? Hmm, I did some research and it appears that most scanners support a very limited depth, including the Canon LiDe 90 that looked interesting. However, the Epson V200 had 3d object scanning as one of its featuresets, so I have purchased that one. Haven't received it yet.

I've used an old and crappy Canon scanner (CanoScan D646U) for my GBA cart and PCB scans. I don't know whether the following examples show quality enough for your purposes. First two pics are scans as aquired from the scanner. Third pic shows final result for other PCB after Photoshop (basically brightness tweak plus a sharpening pass).

Re: SNES Central PCB Archive
I'm using a Canon CanoScan 3200F to do my PCB scans. The quality is really excellent. I had a Canon LiDE 30 before but that one doesn't have any "3D" capabilities. That is because of the used scanning technique. CCD based scanners seem to allow a certain depth of the objects without getting blurry. Those LED scanners (like the Canon LiDE series) only allow scanning of perfectly flat objects like sheets of paper of photos (you already get problems with books or magazines).

I'm using an Epson scanner (forget the model type offhand), and it generally does a pretty good job of scanning.
I just got an email from Y~K saying I couldn't use the No Intro scans. C'est la vie, n'est pas?

I don't think Y~K has anything to say about the usage of anything other than the material he created himself

I sensed an air of bitterness in the email. Of course, it probably didn't help that I always called him a rom kiddie.
Speaking of which, I have a couple of roms to release that I have had for a while. However, I don't have my local Snes Central stuff up correctly yet, and my backup files are in storage. Anyone have docs on how to set up Apache to point towards a local website?

uh, I don't think it's very wise to do that unless you 100% know how to setup Apache's securitybadinsults wrote:I sensed an air of bitterness in the email. Of course, it probably didn't help that I always called him a rom kiddie.
