Should Virtual Console dumps be added as trusted dumps or third party?
The extraction from the Virtual Console game would be done by a trusted person, but shouldn't the dump be marked as third party as it isn't from a cart? There could be something wrong with the ROM. Also, if the same ROM appears in multiple Virtual Console titles (e.g. different regions, revisions, host console), should each one have its own source? Or should it all be in one source?

Without any doubt VC dumps must be Verified ones because of their origin.
They're all 101% original digital copies from the developers/publishers.
Editing database you just need to tick field "Physical" to "No".
Any VC dump is much more trusted than a copy from a physical cartridge ))

Re: Should Virtual Console dumps be added as trusted dumps or third party?
There is no reason we should trust the Virtual Console dumps that much. While it is very likely the first party ones are straight from Nintendo's digital archive of ROMs, we don't know that. Trusted dumps from carts are from actual carts that trusted people own. Even if the developers of the virtual console titles are from Nintendo, they aren't trusted.
Also, some ROMs have multiple Virtual Console releases, and if they were set to "Trusted", then there would be the outward appearance that that ROM has had multiple redumps from carts. Remember that this is a dat for documenting carts - the Virtual Console stuff is secondary (but also important in my opinion).

Not to mention Virtual Console games can and often have changed content (whether actual ROM changes or as a runtime patch).

Well, currently runtime patches aren't archived anywhere, unfortunately.
So far, I have added VC dumps as verified but clearly indicated VC in the comment.
Unsure how to handle redumps. The whole issue probably only really matters when new dumps are found, because if VC matches currently known cartridge dumps, discounting VC confirmations would be counterproductive.
