Question, what exactly does "Deprecated" mean in regards to release?

Post by Fugus »

Question, what exactly does "Deprecated" mean in regards to release?

I am asking because I am not sure if that means it's obsolete and replaced by another collection? Is it just abandoned?

I am looking at it because you have the Wii (Digital) which is Deprecated by then followed up with the CDN which is still ongoing but when you look at it, everything is labeled "Unknown" which makes it the worse option of the 2 for digital collections because you have no clue what they are.

What does Deprecated mean in the context to these collection?

Edit:

Might I suggest possible alternative labels instead mainly the labels of
"Obsolete"
"Abandoned" and
"Completed"

Honestly seem more direct and self explanatory.

Deprecated means that another dat is the main one for that system. Eventually I think the Deprecated dats will be merged into the main ones (with the dumps from them being excluded from the datfile).

Ah, thank you, much appreciated. Wasn't sure if those sets were actually a part of another set or something or what.

My understanding was that the deprecated dats are obsolete, e.g. "non-clean" dump format, but to give everybody time to catch up so their collections are not disappearing overnight, there is a time lag before they get deleted.

In my opinion, all except for maybe the Wii WAD set - ought to just be deleted, since they are incomplete and have basically no prospect of being added to since scene isn't dumping that format anymore.

But maybe I was wrong - if they get merged into the "clean' dat as an alternative dump format e.g. "WAD" for Wii, and the sets are matched up, that would be another way to go.

These sets are also obsolete/garbage and ought to be removed imho:
Unofficial - Sony - PlayStation 3 (PSN) (Decrypted)
Unofficial - Nintendo - Wii U (Digital) (Deprecated)
Unofficial - Nintendo - Nintendo 3DS (Digital) (Updates and DLC)
Nintendo - New Nintendo 3DS (Digital) (Deprecated)
Nintendo - Nintendo 3DS (Digital) (Deprecated)
Unofficial - Sony - PlayStation Vita (PSN) (Decrypted)

These "unclean" ones deserve to be merged, perhaps, into the clean set as an alternative dump format, once the set names can be matched up:
Unofficial - Sony - PlayStation Portable (PSN) (Decrypted)
Unofficial - Nintendo - Wii (Digital) (Split DLC) (Deprecated)
Unofficial - Nintendo - Wii (Digital) (Deprecated)

I think its best to compare the data with the "proper" dats and then merge them, even if it means most will be excluded from the actual datfile due to being marked as bad. I don't think deleting the data outright is a good idea.
