GBA ROM Size

After tearing apart a lot of GBA games to do PCB scans, I noticed a trend.

For this example, this is the PCB to MLB SlugFest 20-04 (U) (AGB-A5ME-USA). If you look on the main chip, you'll notice I marked in red some text. The text, if you can't read it, says:

MX23L3206-12B

Most of the text is worthless, except the 2 (or 3) numbers right after the L: in this case, 32. The ROM size just happens to be 32Mbit. Coincidence? Nope. Final Fantasy V (U) has 64 in that location. Cartoon Network Platinum Edition (U) has 256.

Granted a lot of you dumpers might have already figured this out. But I'm sure (or at least hope) somebody finds this information interesting and useful.

Yes this is interesting for sure. However were the gba chips all manufactured by the same company? In SFC I've seen dozens of different ROM chip types (even AMD chips)

The board serial has also most of the infos on the board content: roms, sram, battery...

I will write a document about it someday
