I've recently went about updating my No-Intro ROM sets that were over a year old. This process took me longer than I would have liked, especially on the new sets due to the size of the ROMs (NDS & Xbox 360 I'm looking at you).... Because I had a lot of time on my hands while I waited for all my roms to be renamed I thought of an idea, why not change the name of the rom inside the archive to their corresponding numeric ID in DAT-O-Matic [XXXX] or their CRC32 values [XXXXXXXX] and use the name of the archive as the real name. If any renaming had to take place it would only effect the archive name and not the file inside. If the only thing that needed to be renamed was the name of the archive it would take mins instead of hours to rename every No-Intro set.
So currently my NDS ROMs look like this
0001 - Electroplankton (Japan).7z
- 0001 - Electroplankton (Japan).nds
0002 - Need for Speed - Underground 2 (USA) (En,Fr,De,Es,It).7z
- 0002 - Need for Speed - Underground 2 (USA) (En,Fr,De,Es,It).nds
etc.
If they were renamed to their CRC32 values it would be
0001 - Electroplankton (Japan).7z
- 94767CD4.nds
0002 - Need for Speed - Underground 2 (USA) (En,Fr,De,Es,It).7z
- C37AB273.nds
etc.
The only downside to this is if the files are extracted it would be confusing which game you are trying to play based on a crc32 value or a 4 digit number. The only work around I could think of for this is to either find or create a program that upon extraction relabels the file to the name of the archive.

but the only advantage is to spare some time during renaming! we like to see the hard disks on the work, don't steal our obsessions!!

Yup, nothing like a HDD slaving away for hours on end...
