Rodland (Europe) (GB) - bad dump?

Post by marzsyndrome »

Hello, thought I'd register to ask if you could help me out at all regarding a specific game that's puzzling me with its behaviour.

Basically, you know the Gameboy version of the marvellous Rodland, right?

I've played both the Japanese and the English versions, and while the former is fully completable to the end, the English version always freezes on a blank screen after I beat Level 10 (which IIRC is the level just before the first boss (the multiple crocodiles) of the game). It may not be a specific emulator issue as I've seen the crash happen on Goomba, Lameboy and VBA-M (using the latest revision available, M878).

Has anybody had any experience with this particular title before? Did the game crash on real hardware too? I'm just puzzled as to why it seems you can only play the first ten levels of the game before it keels over all of a sudden! =[

All help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hello

thanks for the report. All titles are potential bad dumps as long as no one verified the dump. According to NGEFreak's list the status is unverified. There is a similar case with Litti's Summer Sports.

If it's important to know, the GoodGB dump behaves the same also.

If I'm not able to find an emulator that will somehow play the rom properly, I may try my luck with seeking an original cart off eBay and testing it on my GBA SP. If the error occurs under real hardware also, then it'll be quite a shock to think it had been commercially sold in a broken state!

Well, I've tried almost every decent GB emulator i can think of, and they all produce the same effect. So it's clearly a rom problem.

Could you or whoever is doing the dumping test the cart out on a real GB/original hardware? Someone needs to determine once and for all whether the game itself is just broken. =\

it was a bad dump. New dump should work fine.

Never trust a dump you didn't verify yourself :D

Top work, team! Confirmed as of a couple of days ago to be playable to the end. :)

Did you have to dump it differently this time? I'm quite surprised that all previous dumpers ended up with a bad rom of the same checksum for all these years. You certainly went one better than GoodGBx and the rest! ;)

I actually think it was only dumped once before.

Intriguing. I always thought GoodTools dumped their own roms in the past. It's just I remember a random copy of the rom being filedated 1995 or something like that so I assumed the bad dump had been going around for more than a decade or so.

Most of the old roms floating around are scene releases that were never validated. That's basically what this whole community is trying to achieve.
