[No-intro Screenshot Archive] Volunteers needed for NDS

Post by geezup »

Hi there!

I've coded a tool to help in the capturing proccess of Nintendo DS screenshots.

You can take a look at how it works here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfdLWZ9exs8

We need volunteers to join forces for this task. There is no hurry, but if you say you will do it, we expect you to do it and not let the team down with your part undone. So only serious people please.

Once the team is created i'll create a thread in our forums so capturers can comment things and place download links for their packs so i can keep them all together. We'll place all comments and stuff in our forums, cause there are other people involved from other forums, so it will be like a meeting point. Once i have a list of people who will join us, i'll send them the tool. The tool is for "internal use only", therefore by joining us, you agree not to pass it to anyone else. We already know some fuckers will steal our work as soon as it's released without crediting us or even mention the source, so at least let them capture the new snaps by hand later if they want to keep the packs updated.

Let me know if you are interested in joining us for this task :) No$GBA compatibility should be quite good, but the task is time consuming ! There are more than 3700 dumps, and growing fast every week. Only requisite is having the full No-intro NDS romset (or at least a full letter) so we can distribute work.

Cheers!

great xuom2 ! Thanks a lot.

I'll keep everyone updated during the week, when recruiting people in other trusted forums is done.

Cheers!

Don't forget to try iDeaS and DeSmuME when no$gba fails, though I think iDeaS watermarks screenshots :(

I havent been able to run a single rom correctly with DeSmuME... just a couple intros which took age to load, and has no screenshot support. I'll check iDeaS later, so for now, only No$GBA support in the application, sorry.

EDIT: iDeaS, as you said, watermarks the screenshots :( So we'll have to stay with No$GBA only. If there are some roms with emulation problems, we will try them with the other emus, or wait for a new version of No$GBA.

no$gba, iDeaS, DeSmuME, that's the order to try. By the time of "Herbie - Rescue Rally", DeSmuME was the only one able to boot it, and currently only this emulator supports GBA-DS linkage. You will need iDeaS for things like recent #3630.

Even if iDeaS watermarks screenshots, since only a fraction of games will require it, they could be done the manual way: external capture (irfanview will work for an active window capture) and then PS composition. Original captures could be stored and processed at a later time.

I'll be happy to donate mine if you like. I've about 1800+ done of both Titles and Snaps spanning from 0001 to 2245 plus 60+ of the xxxx ones. The gaps in the numbered order are due to emulation issues (most will probably work now since I made the majority of these several emulator revisions ago) and because I started making the pics by working up from 0001 and creating all associated clones - E, J, U, etc. This way, it was easier to generate two/three snaps of the same game using the same ROM, clearly if different language/currencies, etc. existed on screen, then I would use the specific region ROM. All titles were made using the region specific ROM because of language and E and U releases don't always use the same name. If you realise just how long it takes to get 'in game' to make a snapshot with some games, then you'll understand why it was a lot quicker to use my method.

Most pics were done using No$gba and some using other emus with the use of kazumi213's suggestion of a 'Print Screen' grabber - I think I used "WinSnap". All pics should be in 24 bit PNG format with a res of 256x384 @ 96 dpi. If you decide you want to use them, then you may have to check some of the order because they were made using the release order as per advanscene which is slightly different to No-Intro in places.

wow.. that sounds great Connie ! Thanks a lot!!

Do you keep the DAT file with the exact order for the pics ? Maybe Advanscene changed numbers, so it would be nice to have the original DAT used.

I'll get back to you when i get back home, i don't know if you still have access to the FTP (we changed access details) so you can upload the pics and DAT file so i can take a look at it and sort them out.

Cheers!

PM me your FTP details, I don't have my old account info anyway.

The best I can do regarding the dat/numbering is to send you the GBAfront generated miss/have lists according to the database (2130 + xx93) that I was at the time working on. This will give you the number, name & CRC which should make it relatively easy to match up with the No-Intro numbering. A simple 'rename' batch file could then be made from this to convert from numbering to your CRC naming standard. Unfortunately, the program won't export the xxxx files so there'll be some manual work involved. IIRC though, the majority of the numbering differences didn't occur until post 2000, so you shouldn't find many discrepancies.

I'd like to help with this as well - a way for me to give something back and all :) (I watched the video and it seems straightforward enough) - I posted in the other screenshot thread as well, but this seems to be the project thread rather than just the idea thread...you can either pm me here, or I'm usually idling in the IRC channel.
