Difference between "Rev A" and "Rev 1" for NES games?
Difference between "Rev A" and "Rev 1" for NES games?
Hey there, recently I've noticed that some of your ROMs have been labeled as "Rev A", which I'm familiar with back from the GoodSets, and then some are called "Rev 1". I'm not familiar with any "Rev 1", though I am familiar with "PRG1" or "PRG2" from the GoodSets. What does No-Intro use these two different labels for specifically? Does this information come somewhere from the game's box? Sometimes "REV-A" can be seen on the game box (and I think it should be written as such instead of standard case and no hyphen).

Really? 33 people have viewed this and no one knows?
I have additional questions about this now... I'm starting to think this is not so meaningful... for a specific game I'm having doubts about, the Japanese release of 10-Yard Fight, there is the normal release and then something No-Intro calls "Rev 1". But on ototo's page, this is called "v1.1", and on bootgod's page it is called "Version 1.1" which on his pages is basically the same thing because he never writes abbreviations (for example it's always "Revision A" instead of "Rev A" with him). So I don't know why this particular game is going by revision instead of version... any logic behind which term is chosen for which game?

Rev A, B etc are used for licensed carts that use the stamp system. Unlicensed don't so I chose 1,2 - basically it's the same and because A, B etc. are not fool proof indicators and are sometimes even missing on japanese carts I will switch all to the Rev 1, 2... system soon.

I'm totally lost. 10-Yard Fight is not an unlicensed game and yet two different trustworthy sources have report it being version 1.1 and not revision 1. Plus "REV-A" can be seen on the game boxes many times. Check out the bottom-right corner of the Dragon Warrior box, for example. Is the actual way it's written not important and you'd rather just go with a global way?
