Creator's names in game titles

Post by C. V. Reynolds »

There's recently been some dispute over whether a game creator's name belongs in a game's title if it's clearly displayed on the box. A few examples:

David Crane's A Boy and His Blob - Trouble on Blobolonia
Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds - Kokusai Kyuujotai Shutsudou Seyo!!
Sid Meier's Civilization

Historically No-Intro has included this information as a part of the title. Some might say it's no different than including the name of the creator of the media the game is based on. Examples of that include, to name a few:

Jim Lee's WildC.A.T.S - Covert-Action-Teams
Todd McFarlane's Spawn - The Video Game

But an argument can be made that the creator's name is no different than including the company's name. IE: Disney's (the most obvious example perhaps). There's a clear No-Intro rule against including the company name in such situations. Might it extend to creator names as well?

Of course we all know the importance of including sports stars in sports game titles. And some might argue that including the creator's name is no different than including those, should the box deem it worthy. A few examples:

Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart's Super Off Road
Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball (please note this is a bit of a different case due to the "Presents")

I think now would be a good time for discussion regarding these titles and what should be included in them.

I don't have a horse in this race. I just want one consistent ruling across all of No-Intro and for us to stick to it.

EDIT: This is what the No-Intro naming standards have to say on the subject:

"Trademark reminders such as "Disney’s" are not included in the title usually. They are only included if they are relevant or part of the title (ex. "Disney Sports"). Also generally original artists or authors are not removed from titles (ex. "Mary Shelley’s Dracula, "Archer McLean’s Dropzone)."

It states that programmer's names are to be included. So as I thought, we'll need to change the rule before proceeding with any title changes in this matter.
