Mattel Intellivision

Post by alcoatjez »

While going through a big pile that's called my burned DVD collection I stumbled across some disc images of Intellivision Lives and Intellivision Rocks. These games are still being sold by these guys, which seem to be the copyright holders of it now.
I checked one of the ISOs and it contains .bin files of the Intellivision games. Check here to see they claim it runs the actual game code.
Should it be datted by us? Is it trustworthy enough that they're images of the original carts? Anyone knows who dumped the games that are already in the GoodTools/TOSEC dats?
I will check later today whether they are recognized by the GoodTools and the TOSEC dats and check them in an emulator.
It would be nice, since I could do the dat and get all the artwork also in one time ;)

The files are recognized by the TOSEC dat (although that doesn't mean much) and they run in Bliss.

Interesting, I used to have one as a kid. I had a lot of fun with it.

I can't answer your question, but I'm curious if any are recognized by GoodINTV? Not that it really matters either...

I dumped all of my own carts (> 100), and everything that's on Intellivision Lives! matches what I dumped.

I never purchased Intellivision Rocks! so I'm not sure what's on there.

I didn't dump the individual ROMs on carts though because the few carts I took apart buried the ROMs under epoxy. So mine were dumped using an edge-card connector, dumping all of memory, then picking out what looked like valid regions. Sounds hokey, but what I dumped matched what the Blue Sky Rangers did, so it's likely OK.

I don't think BSR has rights to many (any?) non-Mattel carts, so verifying my Imagic, Activision, Parker Bros., etc. cart dumps might be a problem. But they seem to run fine in Nostalgia, Bliss, my emulator, etc.

If anyone needs re-dumps, or any other Intellivision carts dumped for that matter, let me know.

Trivia: I'm also responsible for the first bad dumps of Intellivision carts :whistling: stupid ECS ROM banking

By the way, there are a few undumped Intellivision carts that I know about.

Supposedly there's a different version of AUTO RACING available, that gives you the option of using directional or absolute steering. There's also an improved LOCK 'N' CHASE that fixes the stickiness of the controls, and adds an animation where you collapse into your hat when you're caught.

And I've only dumped what I've been able to find locally, or what a few others from around the world have sent to me.

From the Intellivision Lives! (http://www.intellivisionlives.com) website:
Mattel released 51 Intellivision cartridges. Intellivision Inc./INTV Corp. introduced another 21, many of which were enhanced or previously unreleased Mattel games. 43 more were released by other companies: Activision (7), Atari (3), Coleco (8), Dextell (2), Imagic (14), Interphase (2), Parker Brothers (6) and Sega (1). That's 115 in all.

Also, Mattel Electronics released 4 Intellivision cartridges that required the Intellivoice module and another 6 that required the Entertainment Computer System module. That brings the grand total to 125.

There is a list of these games here (http://www.intellivisionlives.com/gamecatalog.php).

This count does not include cartridges that were the same game released under different names: e.g., Mattel's NFL Football and Sears' Football, Atari's Pac-Man and INTV's Pac-Man (Atari title screen removed), Mattel's Major League Baseball and INTV's Big League Baseball, Mattel's Checkers and Mattel (England)'s Draughts; nor games that have two versions due to changes made after their initial release: e.g., Space Battle, Auto Racing and Lock 'N' Chase. It also doesn't count demo, test or prototype cartridges, nor does it count the nine titles produced for the original Intellivision Keyboard Component, since they never received a full national release.
This count also doesn't include some of the PD carts, demo carts, and beta carts that have shown up over the years.

If you have any carts that are not recognized or behave differently than anything recognized by GoodINTV, or any of the specific alternative versions mentioned above, feel free to drop me a line and we'll see about getting it dumped.

Peace =D
