about the title "Magnavox - Odyssey2"

Post by MeguCocoa »

I would prefer "Magnavox - Odyssey 2" instead of "Magnavox - Odyssey2"
the latter name is more common

I suggest a change : D

I agree to either of these over Odyssey², it is better to have all ASCII like we usually do, I don't even know how to type the ² :D

I mean, we could go with a separate field for Unicode names, like with archives (Alt Name). But i mean, most people wouldn't type it using the stylised/advertisement way with the superscript "2". I think "Magnavox Odyssey 2" is a more common usage.

That space does have different meaning implications.
I would guess the proper name is supposed to invoke the math usage of superscript.

Whereas a space implies there should've been an Odyssey 1, but wasn't. :P

yes, in math that space has no meaning, but it's true Google gives more results with the space.

we should consider, you will never really type the system name around. maybe in the rom dirname, 1 time only in your whole life?

I would not create particular character rule limits for system names: we have Game & Watch, and I think that PS3 filesystem doesn't support "&"

Magnavox - Odyssey2 renamed incorrectly to Odyssey²

Seems like this goes against the stated naming convention policy:

Characters

Only 7 Bit ASCII (Low ASCII) characters are allowed for titles. Accents, Umlauts, High ASCII, Double byte characters are converted to the best comparable Low ASCII characters. Also several characters that are invalid on some file systems are not allowed.

The following Low ASCII characters are allowed:
a-z A-Z 0-9 SPACE $ ! # % ' ( ) + , - . ; = @ [ ] ^ _ { } ~
