It is real. The majority come from a guy who got a bunch from a Nintendo of America clearance when he worked there. Some others were found by someone selling a bunch of used equipment from a gym. Still, the game is not more expensive than a complete Donkey Kong Country Competition Cart (the last one sold for something like $730).
