[SNES] Rename suggestions

Post by LucianoTheWindowsFan »

You can post renaming suggestions for SNES ROMs here.

My renaming suggestions:
"Logos Panic Goaisatsu (Japan).sfc" -> "Logos Panic - GO.AI.SA.TU (Japan).sfc" (turns out "GO.AI.SA.TU" are actually the letters that say on the box art)
"Supapoon (Japan).sfc" -> "Supapoun (Japan).sfc" (the game's original Japanese name is すぱぽーん (Supapōn), not すぱぷーん (Supapūn))
"Supapoon DX (Japan).sfc" -> "Supapoun DX (Japan).sfc" (See above)
"Maerchen Adventure Cotton 100% (Japan).sfc" -> "Märchen Adventure Cotton 100% (Japan).sfc" (most operating systems also support German characters)
"EarthBound (USA) (Beta).sfc" -> "EarthBound (USA) (Beta) (1995-03-27).sfc" (most prototypes from Hidden Palace on No-Intro contain dates)
"Sanrio Shanghai (Japan).sfc" -> "Sanrio World - Sanrio Shanghai (Japan).sfc" (its boxart says the full name)

"poon" is only read as "puun" if you're reading it by the rules of a different language.

1. "poon" follows official rules on how to transliterate ぽーん to the Roman alphabet.
2. Goaisatsu also follows official rules, but moreover, the box, cartridge, and in-game title screen all have different English spellings. As such, it's likely best to simply follow the official transliteration rules.

Usually the build date is only added if there is more than one "Beta". Although maybe its best to always add it...

I learned that in Supapoon DX's story mode intro, the background says "Supapon!".

That could just be a mistaken romanisation - not unusual for Japanese games, especially older ones. That doesn't necersarily mean that its an "official" romanisation, and even if it was, the actual title is in Japanese so that's generally what the datfile title should be based off.
