only 1 byte (excluding the checksum) is different compared to the NP release

Fortunately they were all fixable. If anyone else finds some undocumented/unpreserved ROMs with different internal checksums, let us know.

(Seiken Densetsu 2 from the Switch collection seems to have a different internal checksum also, but I don't know where to obtain the ROM)

edit: Compared the Seiken Densetsu 2, but there's too many differences with the Virtual Console one, so I don't think it's possible to obtain a good checksum.

Thank you! That's digital restoration at its finest, to undo Nintendo's modern hacks to obtain the original unreleased revisions. :D

Most likely these Virtual Console releases contain patches and that they have a good checksum that's different from the (intended) original release. IIRC there were plenty of examples where Virtual Console titles were updated with some small changes. Things like adjusting flashing colors to reduce risk of seizures, and minor text fixes.

There wasn't much interest in preserving these modified releases (without a different revision number) back then.

edit: I totally forgot, I created a topic about this before: http://forum.no-intro.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2969 and already restored Street Fighter II Turbo (Japan) (Rev 1) + Panel de Pon (Japan) (Rev 1) (Virtual Console) + Seiken Densetsu 2 (Japan) (Rev 1) (Virtual Console) before :/ BigFred never decided on the matter back then.

I definitely think the new revisions should be added to the dat, as Virtual Console is our only source for these. AIso I don't see why the ROMs that are changed in some other way from retail shouldn't be added to the dat, now that we have these in the best possible state with good checksums. There might be different views on this, but in the NES, GBA and other dats these type of ROMs are included.

Decisions take time as this is a hobby, and people have different projects going on. Two weeks does not mean a dead topic in here. ;)

The Panel de Pon ROM from Switch Online is identical with Vigi's good checksum restored Virtual Console ROM. So we can trust this method, and add all the restored SNES VC ROMs to the dat.

Nintendo didn't translate Panel de Pon to English, all regions got the Japanese ROM.

I dumped my NES Mini (US/EU one) to check how the current state is there. Following information was found compared with "Nintendo - Nintendo Entertainment System (20200604-130641)"

30 ROMs in Dump and 29 known:
Balloon Fight (USA).nes
Bubble Bobble (USA).nes
Castlevania (USA) (Rev 1).nes
Castlevania II - Simon's Quest (USA).nes
Donkey Kong (World) (Rev 1).nes
Donkey Kong Jr. (World) (Rev 1).nes
Double Dragon II - The Revenge (USA) (Rev 1).nes
Dr. Mario (Japan, USA) (Rev 1).nes
Final Fantasy (USA).nes
Galaga - Demons of Death (USA).nes
Ghosts'n Goblins (USA).nes
Gradius (USA).nes
Ice Climber (USA, Europe, Korea).nes
Kid Icarus (USA, Europe) (Rev 1).nes
Kirby's Adventure (USA) (Rev 1).nes
Legend of Zelda, The (USA).nes
Mario Bros. (World).nes
Mega Man 2 (USA).nes
Metroid (USA).nes
Ninja Gaiden (USA).nes

Punch-Out!! (USA).nes

Super Mario Bros. 3 (USA) (Rev 1).nes
Tecmo Bowl (World) (Rev 1) (Virtual Console, Switch Online).nes
Zelda II - The Adventure of Link (USA).nes

-> Maybe Tecmo Bowl needs another Tag for NES Mini?

And then 1 unknown one:
CLV-P-NAAHE.nes (Looks like the same defunct Excitebike used in Switch Online CRC wise)

Checksums are here: https://hastebin.com/hefohoweta.makefile

EDIT: Compared the ROMs included in
dp-nes-release-v1.0.2-0-g99e37e1
dp-nes-release-v1.0.3-0-gc4c703b (Mine)
dp-nes-release-v1.0.7-0-g4ea4041
All identical as expected.

According to the start of this thread, CLV-P-NAAPE.nes = Kirby's Adventure (USA) (Rev A).nes. There also other sources for this. Are you sure it's a good dump?

It seems that you dumped the 22 commom games between regions out of the 30 in total.

Ooops, I cleanly reflashed hakchi to get ftp access and still had problems with listing more ROMs folders, sometimes it even were less. And as we see it aborted in between too. Kirby was booting, but was a bad dump! I replaced the USB cable now and used Chrome and ... MAGIC! Sorry for the false alarm. I updated my post. Only thing left is adding the NES Mini Tag then as that Excitebike is always 1:1 the same mess as it seems, Switch Online or here... Thx for the warning though. I will use that cable for the SNES sfrom analysis then. Less episodes looking like a idiot is better I would assume ^^

Before I start once more a big sorry for the hassle before. I tried to find the reason what happened there and in the end it was my old Filezilla I normally use for XBox FTP as newer ones cause trouble there. That time I used Chrome included FTP and verified the NES ones once more. These are fine. Anyways I still thrashed the other USB cable and used the working and more firm fitting one.

I have a few more additions. After a nice talk with mnml we managed to use his script for the SNES Mini *.sfrom files. This time with the working USB cable, newer FTP Client (Chrome FTP) and verified with more than one d/l try and a checksum compare.
That time it's another version of the format with a header telling where which file ends and the .rom .var and .pcm files are concatenated. He found a nice tool for splitting these up again into .rom .pcm and .var where possible: https://www.reddit.com/r/miniSNES/comme ... c/dseccjv/
Where possible because three ROMs (Star Fox 1+2 and Yoshis Island) are already PCM less.

Then a slightly simplified script of his (https://hastebin.com/opoqujufih.py mnml's) (https://hastebin.com/iguyaruxih.py my sorry try) applied to the .rom files and we have interesting results for the 21 ROMs included in the SNES Mini:

19 are known:

(JA5E.sfc) Contra III - The Alien Wars (USA) (Virtual Console).sfc
(JA9E.sfc) Super Castlevania IV (USA) (Virtual Console).sfc
(JAAE.sfc) Super Mario World (USA, Europe) (Virtual Console, Classic Mini, Switch Online).sfc

(JUFE.sfc) Star Fox (USA) (Rev 2).sfc
(JUYE.sfc) Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island (USA, Asia) (Rev 1).sfc

2 are not (yet):

JABE.sfc = Super Mario RPG.sfc -> BAD Checksum, Not yet on Switch Online and thus not verifyable...
JADE.sfc = Legend of Zelda.sfc -> BAD Checksum, 1 Byte diff to 2024_e.sfc on Switch Online, identical to mnml's Wii VC rebuild (no transfer error that time ^^)

Checksums are all here: https://hastebin.com/ucolasocud.sql

EDIT: Updated to Nintendo - Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Combined) (20200612-124322)
EDIT 2: Compared all US/EU variants for differences in ROM folders. All 6 are fine and the same ROMs:

Small note about these: Donkey Kong Country matches the VC rebuild entirely, and the bad internal checksum on Super Mario Mario RPG matches the VC rebuild's good checksum. But as dreimer noted, without a Switch Online release, we can't know if they're "good".

Last one: Super Famicom Mini.
There are two known variants:
dp-shvc-release-v2.0.12-0-gbff4fb3
dp-shvc-release-v2.0.14-0-gd8b65c6
Both contain identical ROMs.

Of course these ROMs are the same type of sfrom files we see on the US and EU ones. SO check my post above to see what I did with these to get working SFC files off it.

Results (Nintendo - Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Combined) (20200715-103354)):

19 known:
(JA3J.rom) Panel de Pon (World) (Ja) (Rev 1) (Virtual Console, Switch Online).sfc

(JACJ.rom) Super Donkey Kong (Japan) (Rev 1) (Virtual Console, Classic Mini, Switch Online).sfc

Could you double-check Final Fantasy VI? I think you might have used FF4 instead of FF6 for the original data.

Double checked and realized that I still can't work with Latin enumeration. I sucked at it in the past at school and still suck at it. OF COURSE I did not choose Final Fantasy VI but Final Fantasy IV... Fixed the post accordingly... thanks @mnml for notifying.
