only 1 byte (excluding the checksum) is different compared to the NP release

Fortunately they were all fixable. If anyone else finds some undocumented/unpreserved ROMs with different internal checksums, let us know.

(Seiken Densetsu 2 from the Switch collection seems to have a different internal checksum also, but I don't know where to obtain the ROM)

edit: Compared the Seiken Densetsu 2, but there's too many differences with the Virtual Console one, so I don't think it's possible to obtain a good checksum.

Thank you! That's digital restoration at its finest, to undo Nintendo's modern hacks to obtain the original unreleased revisions. :D

Most likely these Virtual Console releases contain patches and that they have a good checksum that's different from the (intended) original release. IIRC there were plenty of examples where Virtual Console titles were updated with some small changes. Things like adjusting flashing colors to reduce risk of seizures, and minor text fixes.

There wasn't much interest in preserving these modified releases (without a different revision number) back then.

edit: I totally forgot, I created a topic about this before: http://forum.no-intro.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2969 and already restored Street Fighter II Turbo (Japan) (Rev 1) + Panel de Pon (Japan) (Rev 1) (Virtual Console) + Seiken Densetsu 2 (Japan) (Rev 1) (Virtual Console) before :/ BigFred never decided on the matter back then.

So, another dead topic with no decisions from the staff?

I definitely think the new revisions should be added to the dat, as Virtual Console is our only source for these. AIso I don't see why the ROMs that are changed in some other way from retail shouldn't be added to the dat, now that we have these in the best possible state with good checksums. There might be different views on this, but in the NES, GBA and other dats these type of ROMs are included.

Decisions take time as this is a hobby, and people have different projects going on. Two weeks does not mean a dead topic in here. ;)
