[GBA] Classic NES Series

Post by diskberget » 12 Dec 2019 13:17

Hi!

Just found that the title "2830 - NES Classics - Castlevania (Europe)" is named in another fashion than the other in this series.

1723 - Classic NES Series - Dr. Mario (USA, Europe)
1724 - Classic NES Series - Metroid (USA, Europe)
1721 - Classic NES Series - Zelda II - The Adventure of Link (USA, Europe)
and so on...

There is a "1722 - Classic NES Series - Castlevania (USA)" but marked as "Trusted modification". Dunno what that means.

Shouldn't the 2830 be named like the others?

To make it even more confusing...

In Europe the series is called "NES Classics"
In USA it's called "Classic NES Series"

Should there be one uniform style in the DAT?

No, we shouldn't be changing the names of what they were actually called. That wouldn't be any different than arbitrarily changing any other other game title that had a small localization difference.

They were called "Classic NES Series" in the US and "NES Classics" in Europe because Nintendo decided to call them that.

If a game is identical like the (USA, Europe) ones, we have two names for the same game... What can be done there?

I'm thinking either priority should be given to the European region, as is normally done with No-Intro (because of more languages or just more European users, I guess). Or both names could be used, like with the name of the "Sega Mega Drive - Genesis" set.

I think the usual thing then is to name the ones that are identical according to usual naming rules, and leave the ones not identical as their individual names?
Or both names I guess as seems to be done with the MD/Genesis games which used universal ROMs with multiple regional varations programmed in.

Seems like the naming convention actually has something about this situation:
Only one title is used even if the game contains multiple titles or is released
with different titles in multiple regions. In that case the priority is in this order:
US English title, Europe English title, Japanese title and rest.
So how it is in the dat at the is correct.

Ah ok! So USA is prio.

So the 2830 - NES Classics - Castlevania (Europe) shouldn't be (USA, Europe) then?
It was also released in both regions.

Different ROMs are used it seems. (Although the USA one doesn't have trusted dump).
