Is there any point hashing Switch NCAs/NSPs?

Post by Hiccup »

NCAs are totally self-verifying as they use a hash hiarchy and signatures. The CNMT NCA of each title version contains SHA256 hashes and sizes of each NCA. So is there really any point of hashing Switch NCAs as they are done now?
Couldn't the dat be replaced simply by a dat of CNMT NCAs (which are small metadata files) and for easy use, the DoM metadata could list the sizes and hashes listed in that CNMT?

I'd say yes, since the NCA names are SHA256, which we don't normally dat.

So I'd say that we should dat them as normal.

Its true that SHA256 isn't supported by ROM managers/datfiles, but that seems like a minor thing...

But in general, I think maybe it would be best to dat them normally, "just in case".
