SNES Star Fox 2 Hashes

Post by DeriLoko3 »

Recently, I have found these ROMs from SNES Central. Here are the hashes from NSRT (v3.4).

SF.sfc

Code: Select all

---------------------Internal ROM Info----------------------
       File: SF.sfc
       Name: STAR FOX Company: Nintendo
     Header: None Bank: LoROM
Interleaved: None SRAM: 256 Kb
Type: Super FX (MC1) ROM: 7 Mb
    Country: USA Video: NTSC
ROM Speed: 200ns (SlowROM) Revision: 1.0
   Checksum: Bad 0xD6C8 != 0x0000   Game Code:
---------------------------Hashes---------------------------
      CRC32: 70D7AD50
--------------------------Database--------------------------
ROM wasn't found in the database (possible bad dump).
You can try using -fix or -findover to see if the
file has been slightly altered in a rectifiable way.

Comment: The CRC32 of this is identical to the CRC32 of Star Fox 2 (Japan) (Proto 1).

SF2A.sfc

Code: Select all

---------------------Internal ROM Info----------------------
       File: SF2A.sfc
       Name: STAR FOX Company: Nintendo
     Header: None Bank: LoROM
Interleaved: None SRAM: 256 Kb
Type: Super FX (MC1) ROM: 8 Mb
    Country: USA Video: NTSC
ROM Speed: 200ns (SlowROM) Revision: 1.0
   Checksum: Bad 0xE030 != 0x0000   Game Code:
---------------------------Hashes---------------------------
      CRC32: D8B14E9D
--------------------------Database--------------------------
ROM wasn't found in the database (possible bad dump).
You can try using -fix or -findover to see if the
file has been slightly altered in a rectifiable way.

Comment: This one has a different CRC32, so it should be a different build.

SF6-5.sfc

Code: Select all

---------------------Internal ROM Info----------------------
       File: SF6-5.sfc
       Name: STAR FOX Company: Nintendo

Type: Super FX (MC1) ROM: 8 Mb
    Country: USA Video: NTSC
ROM Speed: 200ns (SlowROM) Revision: 1.0
   Checksum: Bad 0x34A7 != 0x0000   Game Code:
---------------------------Hashes---------------------------
      CRC32: 52018C77
--------------------------Database--------------------------
ROM wasn't found in the database (possible bad dump).
You can try using -fix or -findover to see if the
file has been slightly altered in a rectifiable way.

SF6-5_NORMAL.sfc

       Name: STAR FOX Company: Nintendo
     Header: None Bank: LoROM
Interleaved: None SRAM: 256 Kb
Type: Super FX (MC1) ROM: 8 Mb
    Country: USA Video: NTSC
ROM Speed: 200ns (SlowROM) Revision: 1.0
   Checksum: Bad 0xD26F != 0x0000   Game Code:

Star Fox 2 (Japan) (Proto) (Alt 1).sfc

File: Star Fox 2 (Japan) (Proto) (Alt 1).sfc
Name: STAR FOX 2 Company: Nintendo
     Header: None Bank: LoROM

    Country: Japan Video: NTSC
ROM Speed: 200ns (SlowROM) Revision: 1.0
Checksum: Good 0x5F3F Game Code: ST2J
---------------------------Hashes---------------------------
      CRC32: 79F3433D
--------------------------Database--------------------------
Name: Star Fox 2 (Private Build)
    Country: Japan Revision: 1.0
Port 1: Gamepad Port 2: Gamepad
Genre 1: Shooter Genre 2: Back View

Comment: The CRC32 of this is identical to Star Fox 2 (Japan) (Proto 2).

Summary: These games actually are the prototypes. I am not sure which prototypes have been made in order, in terms of release dates or build dates. I cannot really figure out which game comes first or which game comes last.

Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like the SF6-5_NORMAL.sfc was an unofficial alteration, so it shouldn't be included.

So, what you are saying is that SF6-5_NORMAL.sfc is a hacked one.

Yes, it sounds like the person that compiled the ROMs from the source code hacked out the debug stuff, much like the fan translation of the existing latest prototype made an optional patch to disable the debug stuff to make it appear like a final game.
It I am wrong, please correct me.

I cannot really explain what are the dates of these two builds, SF2A.sfc and SF6-5.sfc.

According to the hashes of SF2A.sfc and SF6-5.sfc, the info says that their country is USA. I do not know why, but I do believe that they were developed in Japan.

I'm sure that changing the header in a very early version of the game that was based off the Star Fox codebase was not really a priority. You should never trust the information in the internal header of a prototype.
